The 69th Scientific Conference of the University of Latvia

Starting from the end of January until March 2011 the annual Scientific Conference will take place at the University of Latvia (UL). The Conference covers a wide range of scientific disciplines, from Philology to Astronomy. During the Conference the UL researchers, lecturers, students and guests will present more than 1800 papers.
The Conference Plenary Session Higher Education and Science as a Source of Latvia’s Development will be held at the UL Great Hall on Wednesday, February 2, at 12:00 o’clock.
It will be opened by Indriķis Muižnieks, the UL Science Pro-Rector. Rolands Broks, the Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Latvia, will read an opening lecture Effective Higher Education in Latvia: Current Situation, Challenges and Future Outlook. Afterwards Mārcis Auziņš, the UL Rector, will present his paper Higher Education and Science for the Latvian Economy. Juris Ekmanis, the Academician and President of the Latvian Academy of Sciences, will also give a presentation Science in Latvia. What We Are Doing and Not Doing. While Jānis Vētra, the President of the Council of Higher Education of the Republic of Latvia, will present the paper Brands in Higher Education.
The Conference activities are organized in 7 Plenary Sessions and 100 Sessions. Within the framework of the Conference more than 1800 papers in various fields of science – Biology, Geography, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Astronomy, Sociology, Pedagogy, Philology, etc – will be presented. The Conference will be concluded this year on March 10 at the Topology and Mathematical Analysis Department.
The annual UL Scientific Conference is held with the aim of ensuring the exchange of research findings, ideas and thoughts between researchers, lecturers and students, which is an integral component of scientific activities. The UL Scientific Conferences have taken place regularly since 1945.
Everyone is invited to participate in all events of the Conference.
