38 teams from the universities of the Baltic States participated in the Programming Contest on September 23, 2011. The top places were taken by the University of Latvia (UL) teams.

The Contest was held on the Internet. During the five-hour competition, teams attempted to solve 10 problems. Each team of up to three members could use only one computer.

The fact that UL was represented by 17 teams indicates the growing popularity of programming contests among UL students. The competition’s final results proved the UL teams still the strongest in the region. The highest score was attained by the UL team of the Faculty of Computing (Aigars Eglajs, Rihards Fridrihsons and Arturs Znotins). The second and the third places were taken by UL teams as well. Normunds Vilcins and Jevgenijs Vihrovs gained the second place, while Karlis Senko, Eriks Gopaks and Edgars Ozols ranked in the third place. The Contest provided a platform for the most prestigious international competition - the world’s quarter-final of ACM ICPC. Thus, in mid-October five UL teams will participate in quarter-final competitions in Minsk. The Contest was hosted by the University of Tartu and the University of Latvia. The main organizers are Ahto Truu, Guntis Arnicans and Rihards Opmanis.
