On 4th of March in the central building of The Library of University of Latvia will be the opening of exhibition “Understanding of contemporary Japan: contribution of The Nippon Foundation”. The exhibition will be opened by ambassador of Japan Takashi Osanai and rector of The University of Latvia Marcis Auzins and director of The Library of the University of Latvia Iveta Gudakovska.

The Library of the University of Latvia is one of libraries all around the world that at the end of the last year received a contribution from „The Nippon Foundation”. Contribution was received during project “100 Books for Understanding Contemporary Japan”, and The Library of University of Latvia received books that are going to increase the collection of library in different fields of science: politics, international relations, society and culture, literature and art and history. Project “100 Books for Understanding Contemporary Japan” is made to develop and promote culture of Japan in different countries all around the world. One of the ways to promote and develop understanding of culture is by reading about it. Books allow it’s readers to live through culture of Japan. „The Nippon Foundation” invited 10 experts to select 100 books about contemporary Japan. And Librarians and teaching staff selected 73 books that were suitable for study programs in the University of Latvia. After exhibition books will be accessible in different branch libraries. „The Nippon Foundation” is established in 1962, and in year 2002 became one of Maecenas of University of Latvia. Now every year Foundation of University of Latvia disburses scholarship of The Nippon Foundation to students of Master and doctoral program of humanities and socials sciences. The exhibition will be available from 4th till 14th March, daily from 12.00-20.00, and in weekdays from 10.00-17.00 You are welcome!
