Centre of Indian Studies and Culture (University of Latvia) celebrates a new start.

In the brisk and bright winter morning of the 9th February 2017, Centre of Indian Studies and Culture celebrated the inauguration of its new premises at Baznicas street 5. The event was presided by the Ambassador of India to Sweden and Latvia, H.E. Monika Kapil Mohta, who had arrived from Stockholm. Guests were greeted by Vice-Rector of the University, Ina Druviete and Director of the Centre, Agita Baltgalve. Professor Sigma Ankrava – founder of the Centre and Pro Vice Chancellor of Haridvar Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya Univeristy Dr. Chinmay Pandya participated in a live talk via skype.

The audience could admire Indian-Latvian style instrumental music of kokle and the meditative voice of Professor Valdis Muktupavels, and enjoy gracious Indian dances performed by Aija Dvinska un Larisa Podskochaya. Among guests there were representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, professors and leading persons from the University of Latvia, Stradina University, Medicine Academy, as well as students and cooperation partners. In a cosy atmosphere and lively conversations guests could taste the cake and the sweet Indian masala tea.   Thanks to generosity and support of the University of Latvia, teachers of the Centre now will be able to work all together in one place. Due to the growing number of study courses and students, more spacious rooms were urgently needed. Now the Centre offers regular language studies of Hindi, Sanskrit, Persian and Bengali, Yoga at several levels, as well as Indian classical music and dance courses.
