The legendary "Laibach" will perform at the University of Latvia
UL Press Centre
"Laibach" will play a show in Riga on Sunday, March 13th. This performance will be a part of their 30th anniversary tour.
"Laibach" were formed in 1980 in the industrial town Trbovlje, Slovenia, in the then Socialist Federative Republic of Yugoslavia. The name Laibach (Austro-German for the capital city Ljubljana) as well as the group’s militaristic self-stylisation, propagandist manifestos and totalitarian statements have raised many debates on their actual artistic and political positioning. Many theorists, among them world known philosopher Slavoj Žižek, have discussed the Laibach -phenomenon. The main elements of Laibach’s varied practices were references to avant-garde art history, nazi-kunst and socialist realism, de-individualisation in their public performance as anonymous and uniformed quartet, conceptual proclamations, and forceful sonic stage performances – often labelled as industrial pop music.
In the light of their 30th Anniversary the group has decided to reconstruct and re-fresh some of their rarely performed cult songs from the first half of 1980's, including notorious Država (The State), Brat moj (Brother of Mine), Mi kujemo bodočnost (We Are Forging The Future) Krvava gruda – plodna zemlja (Bloody Ground – Fertile Soil). They have recorded these tracks for the special double album, titled Laibach Revisited, which is due to be released soon. These newly arranged versions of their legendary industrial songs are now performed live on their Anniversary Revisited tour, along with the selection of material from their later albums. First part of this tour already happened in December 2010.
A show in Riga will take place in the Great Hall of the University of Latvia, Raina blvd. 19. Doors open at 17:00, show starts at 18:00. Tickets are already available online at www.bilesuserviss.lv.
