The First Self-service Device for Checking out and Returning Books Unveiled at the UL

The unveiling of the self-service device was attended by the UL Vice-rector for Research Indriķis Muižnieks, the head of the UL Library Iveta Gudakovska and the students’ self-government of the Faculty of Humanities. Self-service devices for checking out and returning books became popular in world libraries at the end of the 20^th century and have appeared in the UL Library at the beginning of the 21^st century. The UL is the first university in Latvia that has bought and will be applying such device. From now on library users will be offered an unprecedented opportunity of self-service: to check out and return books without the help of a librarian using the self-service device. We invite everyone to use the self-service device for checking out and returning books in the UL Library of the Humanities. To use the device one should be a student’s or staff card holder.
