On March 16 the self-service device for checking out and returning books called Visvaldis was unveiled at the UL Library of the Humanities.

The unveiling of the self-service device was attended by the UL Vice-rector for Research Indriķis Muižnieks, the head of the UL Library Iveta Gudakovska and the students’ self-government of the Faculty of Humanities. Self-service devices for checking out and returning books became popular in world libraries at the end of the 20th century and have appeared in the UL Library at the beginning of the 21st century. The UL is the first university in Latvia that has bought and will be applying such device. From now on library users will be offered an unprecedented opportunity of self-service: to check out and return books without the help of a librarian using the self-service device. We invite everyone to use the self-service device for checking out and returning books in the UL Library of the Humanities. To use the device one should be a student’s or staff card holder.
