Workshop "Open Access and OpenAIRE - challenge and opportunity for Latvian scientific progress"

The Library of the University of Latvia organizes a workshop "Open Access and OpenAIRE - challenge and opportunity for Latvian scientific progress" on the 18th October from 10.00 o’clock in the Small Hall of the University of Latvia (Raina Blvd. 19).
Open Access is a movement or initiative, which aims to promote and support open access (Open Access) for electronic resources for education, research and academic environment. To support the Open Access movement in Latvia the Library of the University of Latvia participates in the European Commission 7. Framework Program project OpenAIRE. The Library of the University of Latvia works as the national Open Access Desk and the OpenAIRE Helpdesk. OpenAIRE promotes wide range dissemination of Open Access initiatives and of the European Open Access guidelines. More about OpenAIRE:www.openaire.eu/index.phpThe main aim of the workshop "Open Access and OpenAIRE - challenge and opportunity for Latvian scientific progress" is to increase knowledge of the Open Access movement opportunities in the Latvian context. The seminar will provide theoretical information about the Open Access framework, the opportunities, resources and their usage. Workshop participants will be introduced to the project OpenAIRE and the experiences and perspectives of institutional repository development.
The workshop is dedicated to the international Open Access Week, with main aim to attract the attention of the academic community to the idea of the Open Access and to promote and expand understanding of the importance of Open Access in dissemination of scientific information.Everyone is invited to participate in discussions, share experiences, and express their suggestions, reviews, and ideas.
