After the Wall Street Crash in 2007 and the ensuing economic crisis, the world has experienced significant changes. Marc De Vos’ lecture will present his views on development of capitalism, market economy, globalization, the boom in the East and events in the Arab world. Professor promises an insightful depiction of ongoing processes and future global trends of the new post-meltdown world.
Marc De Vos, Professor at Ghent University, will give a lecture “2011: A World in Transition”; the event is organized by the Economists Association 2010 and the University of Latvia on May 18, 2011 at 14.30 in the Great Hall of the University of Latvia (19 Raina Boulevard).
The Ambassador of Latvia to Denmark, Gints Jegermanis said, “Debates on Latvia’s development may give the impression that we live on an isolated island and everything that happens in Latvia, has no connection with the outside world. Mark De Voss is one of the few thinkers outlining an uncomfortable new reality for globalization and international relations. His book
After the Meltdown and lectures give an analysis of how and why the world got into trouble and how we can get out of the mess”.
It would be very refreshing to hear De Vos’ views and understand that Latvia’s economic woes are not so acute; in the coming years the world may experience fundamental changes. Marc De Vos is worth listening to. Thus, drawing useful conclusions, we may advance Latvia’s economic growth so that today’s first-form pupils could be granted work and reasonable living conditions in the future.”
