Latvian Academy of Culture Riga Film Museum for the fourth time organizes a project called “Diagnoze – kino’’ which focuses on screening of Latvian films once a month. In 2016, Riga Film Museum will show a selection of Latvian classics, as well as newer films that have already proven to become a milestone in the history of Latvian cinema.

The films will be screened with English subtitles toallow foreigners to become acquinted with Latvian film classics. As it is not not common practice to subtitle these films, this will provide a unique oppurtunity to watch these films. The first screening of “Diagnoze – kino’’ in 2016 will be on February 4. We will screen the animation feature film “Rocks in my Pockets” by Signe Baumane (2014). This film saw its world premiere at the prestigious Karlovy Vary festival in Czech Republic. This film is a personal story about depression, told by Baumane herself. “Rocks in my Pockets” has clearly become one of the most important phenomenon in recent history of Latvian cinema, with its honest and light-hearted depiction of depression in animation. In late 2015, Baumane was awarded with the Award of Excellence in Culture, founded by the Ministry of Culture, highlighing the strong influence of “Rocks in my Pockets” in the contemporary landscape of Latvian cinema. “Rocks in My Pockets” will be screened on Thursday, February 4 at the Riga Film Museum at 18:30, free of charge.
