University of Latvia Reduces Tuition Fees

In order to make an excellent science-based higher education available for as many applicants as possible the University of Latvia administration, deans and the Student Council have agreed to reduce the tuition fees. “At a time when boosting the Latvian economy and increasing its international competitiveness is on everyone’s lips, the best way to increase the state and its people’s prosperity is by investing in the education and science. The University of Latvia believes that disadvantageous socio-economic conditions should not deter young people from obtaining quality higher education which in future will give them an opportunity of a successful professional career and exciting, full life. That is why the University of Latvia has made a collective decision to cut the tuition rates for both bachelor and master degree study programmes. Meanwhile, talented and highly motivated students can apply for the University of Latvia Foundation scholarships of benefactors that greatly relieve the burden of studies and everyday life expenses. In the past year, for example, the UL Foundation awarded 346 scholarships totalling about 200,000 lats,” the decision was approved by Prof. Mārcis Auziņš, Rector of the University of Latvia. The tuition fee for particular undergraduate programmes at the University of Latvia is as low as LVL 200, but for master’s degree study programmes – only LVL 300. The annual tuition fee for undergraduate study programmes will range from LVL 700 to LVL 1800, but for master’s degree study programmes it will be LVL 850 – LVL 1500.
