The graduation ceremonies at the University of Latvia commenced on Friday, June 11, and will continue up to July 14, 2010. All in all, about 5 800 new specialists are graduating from the University this academic year.

This summer at 35 ceremonies diplomas will be awarded to about 4 750 students from 13 faculties of the University of Latvia. This academic year first graduations took place in the autumn semester and 1 059 new specialists have already graduated from the University. This summer the Faculty of Economics and Management will yield the highest number of graduates – about 1 350, the Faculty of Law – about 600 and the Faculty of Social Sciences – 470. Traditionally graduation ceremonies are held at the heart of Alma Mater – at the Great Hall; this year is no exception and most of the ceremonies will take place there. It will be possible to see graduates taking pictures on the steps of the University main entrance almost every day until July 14, when the marathon of the graduation ceremonies will finish with diplomas being awarded to the graduates of the Legal Science professional master study programme at the Faculty of Law. First diplomas this summer were awarded to 28 graduates from the interuniversity master’s programme “Nutritional Science”. This was the third cohort of graduates for the programme run by the University of Latvia in collaboration with Rīga Stradiņš University and Latvia University of Agriculture. The diplomas of the academic degree of Master of Health Sciences in Nutritional Science to the graduates were awarded by the pro-rectors of their respective universities.
