In the academic year 2010 /2011 eleven students have been granted Scholarships for Young Researchers to promote research in the field of Humanities, Social and Natural sciences at the University of Latvia (UL). As a prerequisite of receiving the scholarship students must excel in studies, actively participate in public life and be motivated to reach new scientific heights. The total amount of the granted scholarships is 16,100 lats.
- Ernests Felsbergs’ Memorial Scholarship was granted to - Ieva Fībiga (Faculty of Humanities) and Diāna Fogele (Faculty of Humanities).
- Modris K.Gulbis’ Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Diāna Lozko (Faculty of Theology).
- LELCL Tomorrow Fund Scholarship was granted to - Elana Jurgena (Faculty of Theology).
- Ad verbum Scholarship was granted to - Aļesja Lavrinoviča (Faculty of Theology).
- Alfrēds Bīlmanis’ Memorial Scholarship was granted to - Anna Strazdiņa (Faculty of History and Philosophy).
- The Scholarship of Latvian Sworn Notaries Council was granted to - Aleksejs Ketovs (Faculty of Law).
- Kārlis Kaufmanis’ Memorial Scholarship was granted to - Elvijs Matrozis (Faculty of Physics and Mathematics).
- Jānis Priedkalns’ Medicine Research Fund Scholarship was granted to - Darja Svirina, Zane Vīksna, and Sintija Sauša (Faculty of Medicine).
Ernests Felsbergs’ Memorial Scholarship
Ernests Felsbergs’ Memorial Scholarship was founded in 1999 by the UL Maecenas Guntis Bērziņš, the grandson of Ernests Felsbergs – a Professor and Rector at the UL. The scholarship is to support diligent and bright students of Humanities in their studies at the UL.
Modris K.Gulbis’ Memorial Scholarship
The scholarship commemorates the Priest of the USA Twin Cities Christ Congregation and Professor at the UL – Dr. Modris K.Gulbis. The scholarship was founded with the aim of supporting gifted and industrious students, who wish to dedicate their lives to Lutheran parishes in Latvia or abroad, in their studies at the UL Faculty of Theology.
LELCL Tomorrow Fund Scholarship
The Tomorrow Fund scholarship of the
Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Church outside Latvia (LELCL) was established to support young scholars of the UL Faculty of Theology, giving priority to those students who want to devote their future to the Latvian Lutheran parishes. It was founded in the memory of the Dean Emeritus – Uldis Cepure.

The scholarship of the LLC
Ad Verbum was established with the goal to provide support for young scholars studying at the Faculty of Theology.
Alfrēds Bīlmanis’ Memorial Scholarship
The scholarship is dedicated to Dr. Alfrēds Bīlmanis, Politician and Diplomat, and is funded by Maecenas Ceronis Bīlmanis. The aim of the scholarship is to promote interest in Analytical Journalism by supporting students who keep track of political and economical development processes in Latvia.
The Scholarship of Latvian Sworn Notaries Council
The scholarship was initiated by the Latvian Sworn Notaries Council to support the UL Faculty of Law students and to propel their interest in researching in the selected field.
Kārlis Kaufmanis’ Memorial Scholarship
The memorial scholarship of
Kārlis Kaufmanis, Professor Emeritus at Minnesota University (USA), was set up to foster the development of astronomy in Latvia. In accordance with K.Kaufmanis’ legacy (1910-2003) and his will (2003), students specialising in Astronomy are eligible to apply for this scholarship.
Jānis Priedkalns’ Medicine Research Fund Scholarship
The scholarship is to promote the development of medical education in Latvia by supporting the students of the UL Faculty of Medicine who are involved in neurological, and in particular neuroendocrinology research.
