Visiting Professor Richard M. Bernard, from the University of Central Oklahoma, the U.S., will deliver the lecture "U.S. Urban History: Why American Cities are Different from European Cities" on September 12, at 6 p.m. at the Faculty of Humanities, Visvalža-4a, Room 205.

The Professor, invited by the Department of English Studies of the Faculty of Humanities, will also attend a signing ceremony of a bilateral student and faculty exchange agreement between the University of Latvia and the University of Central Oklahoma. Dr. Richard M. Bernard is the Dean of The Jackson College of Graduate Studies at the UCO. His academic field is American urban history with an emphasis on the contemporary era. Tenured as a faculty member at three institutions, Dr. Bernard served as a Fulbright Lecturer in American Studies at the University of Canterbury (New Zealand), was an academic vice president, and most recently as president at Eastern Oklahoma State College. He has published four books and a number of scholarly articles and made presentations in the U.S., China, New Zealand, Australia, Samoa, Tonga, Japan, and Jordan. Earlier in his career, he taught for the University of Maryland in Europe. At the UCO, he oversees and coordinates graduate programs and enrollment efforts and works with international professional exchange programs.
