The UL Rector and Professor Marcis Auzins received a Full Member of the Academy Certificate at the annual Festive Plenary Session of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, celebrated in the University Aula in Salzburg on 3 March, 2012.

UL Rector Marcis Auzins said: „ The goal of the resercher is to contribute to their scientific discipline as much as possible and to raise people’s awareness of the world. In the research process a scientist works individually or in a narrow group of associates. It is a great honor to be evaluated by the international scientific community and wider society.”

The European Academy of Sciences and Arts brings together over 1400 members, including Pope Benedict XVI and 28 Nobel Prize winners. The Academy is a transnational and interdisciplinary organization focusing on European issues.

Professor Marcis Auzins is one of the youngest academicians in Latvia; he is a Full Member of the Latvian Academy of Sciences( 1998), member of the Latvian Council of Science, member of the European Physical Society, the American Physical Society and the Institute of Physics of the United Kingdom.

In spring 2007, Professor Marcis Auzins was elected as the UL Rector and in May 2011, re- elected for the second term.
