On March 29- 30, 2012, a conference „Community- based oral history dialogue” will take place in Riga.

The Conference is organised by the National Oral History Centre ( NMVC) in cooperation with the Latvian Oral History Association „ LifeStory” and the Departament of History of Stockholm University. Conference is devoted to the methodologies of biographical, life narrative, and oral history research, with particular attention to public involvement in the research process– from the gathering of sources to the dissemination of results.  Special emphasis will be also put on the subject of dialogue and social interaction within emigrant communities as well as on their interaction with the host country and the country of origin. Topics for presentations will include research ethics, the connection of oral history to topical and socially sensitive issues and cultural values, as well as innovative forms of publications and projects for public audiences. A number of well- known authorities in the field, such as Inta Gale- Carpenter from Indiana University Bloomington ( USA) and Robert Miller from Queen’s University Belfast ( Northern Ireland), have confirmed their participation in the conference, and over 30 speakers from Estonia, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Poland, United Kingdom, Germany and Lapland have sent their applications.
