The series of guest lectures at the University of Latvia by Mr. Andris Piebalgs, Adviser of the President of the Republic of Latvia on European and Economic Affairs, former Commissioner from Latvia to the European Union, were commenced on March 6, 2015 with the comprehensive overview of the European Union's (EU) energy policy and energy security aspects globally, followed by the second lecture on March 20, 2015 about EU Development Cooperation Policy.

The guest lectures are organized as a part of the interdisciplinary European Studies Master Programme of the University of Latvia in close cooperation with Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence and the Centre for European and Transition Studies of the University of Latvia, as well as with support of the Latvian European Community Studies Association.
Taking into account an increasing share of foreign students and researchers at the University of Latvia through ERASMUS and other academic exchange programs and their participation rate at the first guest lecture, also the second guest lecture will be provided in English.
